Q: After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?

A: The introduction wasn't too bad. Usually introductions could get a little old or dull because it's kind of like a reminder for what you already know or learned. This chapter did a good job at explaining the details about film that you may not have thought about enough to get why film was and is a big deal. I also like how the refers to a film or movie as an example for a certain sense or emotion the author wanted to get at. Those references made the chapter a whole lot more fun and easy to understand. The chapters are also split into smaller sections that want to focus on one point, kind of like a text book section. This chapter covered a lot of different topics so it may be a little difficult to find a specific subject. Our History Through Film teacher suggested highlighters

Q2: Are movies a social danger or a social benefit?

A: I think that movies are a social danger. I'm not saying that I don't like watching them but how many times do you use a funny or inappropriate (same thing) quote to say or look back on in a movie.            We've used the quotes like a zillion and a half times. When someone says the beginning of the quote we can help them finish it. If you've ever watched The Town you'll remember the costumes they wore  to rob one of the banks. There was a robbery that was inspired by the film. That's just one of many examples.

Q: What are your thought about taking the class History Through Film? What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help us all progress forward as we learn?

A: I think taking this class will improve critical thinking which is a big thing considering that we are being taught to do this in English. Trying to imagine what someone from the past was thinking when something new comes up like colored picture is a hard task, it's like trying to erase everything you see in the present and go to the past. I knew going into this class thinking all we're going to do is watch movies was a bad idea. I thought that we would write papers and compare them to history or answer questions like how much of an impact do films make on society. I like history , without history how would we learn. History is like the brains memory. without memory how will we learn. I think this class will be fun with comparing history to film .
