A: The introduction wasn't too bad. Usually introductions could get a little old or dull because it's kind of like a reminder for what you already know or learned. This chapter did a good job at explaining the details about film that you may not have thought about enough to get why film was and is a big deal. I also like how the refers to a film or movie as an example for a certain sense or emotion the author wanted to get at. Those references made the chapter a whole lot more fun and easy to understand. The chapters are also split into smaller sections that want to focus on one point, kind of like a text book section. This chapter covered a lot of different topics so it may be a little difficult to find a specific subject. Our History Through Film teacher suggested highlighters.
Q2: Are movies a social danger or a social benefit?
A: I think that movies are a social danger. I'm not saying that I don't like watching them but how many times do you use a funny or inappropriate (same thing) quote to say or look back on in a movie. We've used the quotes like a zillion and a half times. When someone says the beginning of the quote we can help them finish it. If you've ever watched The Town you'll remember the costumes they wore to rob one of the banks. There was a robbery that was inspired by the film. That's just one of many examples.
OK I get the idea of were you are coming from with movies being a social danger. But Kelly, what do you say about movie like Lincoln, brave heart that are based off of real events as well but give you an idea of the history and can teach you something?
ReplyDeleteLike Beau says, I understand where you are coming from as to why they are a social danger, but I also agree with Beau on how they can benefit us. When Kelly says how we use the quotes a zillion and a half times is 100% correct! Almost every conversation in todays world involves something directly related to a movie.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's the movie that makes people go out and do something it's the mentally unstable person watching it because if you think about it one out of how many people go out and shoot up a town after watching a movie about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the introduction really set up the book and explained things we wouldn't know although it got sort of boring. I also see your side about them being a social danger but I think that there a good benefits also.
ReplyDeleteOn to what Blackhawk was saying i mean not everyone is mentally unstable when they want to go out and do something. Whatever movie they seen like Kickass kids thought they could be just like the actors. They think they are untouchable just like in the movie but it backfired
ReplyDeleteI agree with kelly and hannah saying that in most conversations today people will quote something that they saw from a movie. Also many movies with violence can be a social danger but the ones based on true stories or events that are happening right now would be a benefit to us and not a social danger.
ReplyDeleteI agree with BJ and Trevor in the statement that, the responsibility falls on the viewer of the movie, not the movie itself. Even though James Bond kills people and falls off bridges, does not mean that just anybody can do that. If you can't differentiate real life from the cinema, you shouldn't be allowed to watch them. Simple as that
